eMail Alarm System
As many of you know, having water in the bilge of a boat is something that needs immediate attention. To address this concern, I've created a device that sends an email alert whenever a float switch, located in the bilge, is activated.
How It Works
The device is powered by a long-lasting battery, and it connects to the marina's Wi-Fi to send the email alert. During the setup process, you can easily store the credentials for both the Wi-Fi network and the email account. Once the device is set up, it will send an email alert to the boat owner as soon as the float switch detects water in the bilge. This allows you to act quickly and prevent potential damage to your boat.
Key Features
- Battery-Powered: The device is designed to last for years, with an annual battery recharge. This makes it reliable for long-term use.
- Wi-Fi Connectivity: The device uses the marina's Wi-Fi network to send email alerts. This feature allows for quick communication when water is detected.
- Easy Setup: The setup process is simple. You connect to the device using a cell phone, then enter your Wi-Fi credentials and the desired email address for the alerts. The information is stored securely within the device.
- Versatile Application: While designed for boats, this device can also be used in other situations where Wi-Fi is accessible, and you want to receive email alerts based on a switch activation. For example, it can be used for detecting water in a basement or as part of a security system.
Availability and Interest
I've been using a similar system on my boat for the past couple of years, and it has proven to be very effective. A few other members have expressed interest in this device, so I decided to create an improved and easier-to-set-up version that is battery-operated and activated by a float switch. The price for this device is $60, and it does not include the float switch. I suggest you purchase a good quality float switch made specifically for boats.
Additionally, if you have any other suggestions for how this device could be used, I'd love to hear from you.
